Any damage resulting from the use on the road of models meant only for track use are not covered by warranty.

9.2. Alpina Products are designed to guarantee the best performance during sports activities. However, please note that when used on the track or on unpaved roads, the wheel is subjected to greater stress and wear than during normal road use.

The wear resulting from track use is to all intents and purposes considered “normal wear” for the purposes of warranty coverage.

Any deterioration of the surfaces due to use on the track and during sports competitions is not covered by warranty.

Before use on the track, check that the tire pressure is as desired and that there are no air leaks. In addition, you should make sure that there are no signs of deterioration that could affect the proper functioning of the Products (presence of rust, cracks, deformations, or other signs of damage).

Off-road use

Off-road use

Alpina Products have been designed to withstand high stresses and to ensure off-road use. However, please note that during off-road use, the wheel is naturally subjected to greater stress and wear than during normal on-road use.

Specifically, stones, gravel, debris, and other natural obstacles can damage the wheel and its components.

Any deterioration of surfaces due to off-road use is not covered by warranty.

Cleaning and surface care

• Clean wheels by hand, using a soft cloth or sponge or a non-abrasive fabric.
• Use water at low temperatures, not exceeding 50°C.
• The use of high-pressure washing systems is strongly discouraged. Should this be necessary, however, maintain an adequate distance between the source of the jet and the surface of the wheel (50-70cm minimum).
• The use of detergents to clean the wheels is not recommended. If necessary, use only pH-neutral detergents. The use of abrasive cloths, high-pressure systems, aggressive detergents, and water at high temperatures could irreparably damage wheel surfaces, O-rings or safety rings.

Deterioration resulting from failure to follow the cleaning instructions is not covered by warranty.

Anodized surfaces

Anodized aluminum surfaces may undergo color variations or lose their natural shine if washed with excessively aggressive products or at high temperatures.

Painted surfaces
  • Take special care when mounting and dismounting the tire: levers and other sharp tools used improperly may damage the rim surface and remove the paint layer
  • When riding long distances on unpaved roads (especially stones, gravel, or other natural obstacles), the painted surfaces may show a slight cosmetic damage that, however, do not compromise the correct functioning of the Products.
Polished aluminium surfaces

Polishing by hand ensures an unparalleled aesthetic result, but also special care and attention during use.

Parts

Under no circumstances should non-original parts be used to repair wheels or to replace one or more components. Wheels are designed to use the Alpina STS Tubeless system and therefore require parts specifically designed for this use. The use of non-original parts or in any case parts designated as compatible for a vehicle other than the one indicated may entail serious risks for vehicle driving safety and compromise the Tubeless STS system.

Alpina Raggi S.p.A. declines all responsibility in case of damage deriving from the use of non-original parts to repair Products.

STS Nipples

1 – STS 2 Nipple

  • STS nipples can have two or three seats, depending on the version (STS1 / STS2).
  • They are supplied already lubricated and with O-rings already assembled.
  • Store away from dust and debris, preferably in the bags provided by Alpina in the Spare Parts Kit.
  • Make sure that the nipples are well lubricated before proceeding with replacement operations.

2 – Safety rings, “new” version

  • Safety Rings are stainless steel rings located in the lower part, visible when the wheel is assembled, of the STS nipple.
  • Their function is to prevent the nipple from coming off the rim in the event of breakage or sudden punctures.
  • Warning: do not use a wheel if one or more rings are missing.

3 – O-Ring

  • The O-rings are supplied already lubricated and inserted on the nipples.
  • Infiltration of dust, dirt, sand, or fine dust into the seat of the O-rings can irreparably compromise the correct functioning of the Tubeless STS system.
Spokes

The spokes used on the Products can come in two materials.

  • The wheels in the Supermoto range are equipped with high-resistance Carbon-Steel spokes, to ensure better performance.
  • Street wheels are equipped with Stainless Steel spokes, to ensure high resistance to atmospheric agents and an impeccable aesthetic appearance.

4 – Carbon-Steel spokes

  • Equipped on Supermoto Range
  • Warning: the spokes equipped on STS2 wheels have a flattening near the thread, designed to ensure perfect adjustment. The flattening must always be visible outside the nipple.

5 – Stainless Steel spokes

  • Equipped on Street Range
  • Warning: the spokes equipped on STS2 wheels have a flattening near the thread, designed to ensure perfect adjustment. The flattening must always be visible outside the nipple.

It is possible that the spokes inside the wheel have different sizes, based on their location. Also, different models may have different sized spokes, regardless of rim size.

Not all spokes are the same, nor are they interchangeable: each position inside the wheel requires a specific spoke size, determined by the combination of length, neck and bending angle. When repairing and/or replacing spokes, it is therefore necessary to pay attention to the position of the spoke inside the wheel, so as to replace the part with one of compatible dimensions.

Hubs
  • 6 – Example of hub

Rims

  • Rims come in two variants, depending on the wheel version.

7 – Standard rim, STS1 technology

  • Shows dimples in correspondence of the nipples
  • Thickness of about 6.00 mm

8 – Forged rim, STS2 technology

  • Smooth surface, without dimples
  • Thickness of about 12,00 mm in the central part

Maintenance

Alpina wheels do not require routine maintenance during their life cycle. However, use of the Products under stress (on racing track or off road) may require extraordinary maintenance operations.
The operations described in the Manual are difficult and therefore intended for qualified personnel with proven experience in the care and maintenance of motorcycle spoked wheels.

In any case, we recommend that you contact our Customer Service who will carry out any necessary interventions.
Alpina Raggi S.p.A. declines any responsibility for damage deriving from the incorrect performance of the operations indicated in the Manual and from the execution of interventions by unauthorized personnel.

Interventions carried out by unqualified personnel or in a manner contrary to the indications of the Manual will result in the loss of the warranty.

Replacing individual spokes or nipples

To avoid altering the wheel balance, replace one spoke at a time.

Complete disassembly and subsequent reassembly are operations that involve significant changes to the structure and characteristics of the product; if carried out by unauthorized personnel, such operations could irreparably compromise the safety of the Products. Therefore, complete disassembly and subsequent reassembly by personnel not authorized by Alpina will void the warranty.

Removing the Safety Ring or the Safety Clip

Remove the ring with a tip or sharp instrument.

  • Safety rings can be easily removed with a tip or sharp tool. Be careful when doing this: the sharp tool may scratch or damage the surface of the nipple or rim.

Remember, once removed, the safety ring must be discarded and cannot be reused.

Older models may be equipped with Safety Clips.

Older models may be equipped with Safety Clips, an earlier version of safety rings. The safety clips have a “C” shape instead of a ring shape.

  • Remove the safety clips with a screwdriver, as shown in the video.
  • Be careful while doing this: the screwdriver could damage the surface of the nipple or rim.

Once removed, the Safety Clip must be discarded and cannot be reused.

Replacing the nipple

Remove the nipple by unscrewing it. Use a hexagonal key.

  • Once the safety ring is removed, remove the nipple by unscrewing it. Use a standard hexagonal key for this operation.
  • Make sure that both your hands and your workspace are perfectly clean: dust, sand or dirt could compromise the functioning of the tubeless system.

Replacing the nipple

Front and rear wheels may have STS Nipples with different threads.

Inside the Spare Parts Kit we always indicate on which wheel to use the nipples. For example, you may find the indication “Front Wheel”: it means that the nipple can be used exclusively to replace the nipples on the front wheel.

Screw the nipple onto the thread of the spoke and then gently push it into the hole.

  • During this step, it is not necessary to over-screw or over-tighten the nipple.
  • Once the nipple is inserted into the hole, continue to gently tighten.
  • Do this initially with your bare hands. Next, use a standard hex wrench.
  • Make sure that both your hands and the workspace are clean in order to prevent damage to the O-rings.

STS2 wheel spokes have a flattening for adjustment. The flattening must always be visible.

The spokes equipped on STS2 wheels have a flattening near the thread, designed to ensure perfect adjustment. The flattening prevents excessive tightening and must always be visible outside the nipple.

Removing and replacing the spoke

Remove one spoke at a time, then clean the rim hole with a light cloth.

The balance of the wheel may be compromised if more than one spoke is removed at a time!

Once the spoke has been removed, clean the hole in the rim using a light cloth. This will remove any dirt or seepage that could affect the operation of the tubeless system.

When does a spoke need to be replaced?

  1. a) the thread is damaged and the nipple is not screwed in correctly;
  2. b) the spoke is broken, deformed or shows signs of corrosion or wear.

Spokes are not all the same: make sure you have taken the correct size from the box with respect to the position.

We always indicate which spokes should be used in which position: as a reference, look at the “DOT” marking on the rim. If on the package you find written, for example, “internal, opposite side DOT”, it means that the spoke can be used in an internal position, on the side of the rim opposite the marking.

When inserting the spoke into the hub, pay attention to the bending angle of the spoke.

Rotate the spoke until it fits perfectly in the hole position: the spoke should never be forced or pulled to reach the correct position. Replace the spoke with a new one if necessary.

Insert the safety ring onto the spoke, thread side up, and let it slide down the spoke stem.

Afterwards, once the nipple is screwed in, it will no longer be possible to insert the safety ring! Never use a wheel without a safety ring!

Tightening

Do not exceed the tightening torque of 5 Nm under any circumstances.

Over-tightening could result in broken spokes or nipples or cause improper wheel balancing!

Use a torque wrench to properly measure the tightening torque.

Gently push the safety ring into its seat.

  • Make sure the safety ring is positioned correctly.
  • Do not use a wheel with missing safety rings!

https://sway.office.com/AWFqKdTZrtlEI6BF#content=baxcm8uh2Nz719

If your wheel is equipped with safety clips, insert the clip into its seat.

Insert the clip inside the bottom slot in the visible part of the nipple once the wheel is assembled.
